Land Drainage

The Council has powers under the Land Drainage Act to require owners of watercourses to take action so as to ensure the free flow of water. Most watercourses are the responsibility of private owners (riparian owners - those who own the banks), but the Council is prepared to offer general advise, and to act to enhance the legislation to prevent property damage.

The maintenance of flow in main rivers (e.g. The Severn, Rea Brook and Bagley Brook) is under the jurisdiction of the Environment Agency.
