Every year the UK generates up to 30,000 tonnes of waste alkaline and zinc carbon batteries. Not only is this a waste of resources, but its really bad news for the environment. Batteries contain hazardous heavy metals like Mercury, Lead and Cadmium, which are toxic.

Recycling Process:

Batteries containing mercury (button cells) are processed to vaporise the mercury. The mercury then condenses and eventually solidifies when temperatures are reduced and can then be reintroduced into the material cycle.
