Sport Factsheet: Aikido
Introduction
Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art, recreated in the 1920's based on 12th century origins.
The name can be interpreted as "The Way of Harmony of Spirit".
It is based on movements by which an attacker's aggressive force is turned against itself.
Traditional Aikido is non-competitive, however several styles have developed, which have introduced competitive aspects.
