This image shows part of Frankwell Car Park in the foreground, along with part of the floodwall. When necessary, the gaps in the floodwall can be sealed with metal panels. When very high river levels are expected, demountable metal barriers are erected along the top of the wall, right next to the black railings.
The most prominent feature in this image, the Frankwell footbridge crosses the River Severn and Smithfield Road, giving access to the Riverside Shopping area and town centre.
The large white building beyond, with the three brick turrets, is the Darwin Shopping Centre.
Beyond the shopping centres, you can see the spires of St. Mary's and St. Alkmund's churches.
The panoramic image below shows the view from the top floor window at the Guildhall where the camera is located.

This view shows the normal, summer river level of the Severn. It never drops below this level, due to the weir downstream. The river flows from left to right in this view.
To the left, between the two rows of bollards, you can see the slot in the end of the floodwall, and the sockets in the ground where the demountable barriers are erected.
On the skyline towards the right of the picture the Market Hall clock tower is visible, and the tower of St. Chad's Church beyond that.
