Changing Your Name

There are a number of reasons for wishing to change your name, such as;
  • Marriage
  • Divorce/Separation
  • Bereavement
  • Adoption
  • Not liking your original name
If you'd like to change your name, you can do so at any time providing you are not intending to defraud or deceive another person.  There is no legal proceedure to go through when changing your name, you can simply start using your new name.  You may however, in some circumstances, need to provide evidence of changing your name, such as when applying for a passport or driving licence.  This evidence may be;
  • A deed poll
  • A public announcement
  • A letter from a responsible person
  • A statutory declaration
