The local framework - delivering good air quality

The Local Air Quality Management system set out by the 1995 Environment Act requires the Council to work towards the achievement of statutory objectives for the seven key pollutants that are included in the Air Quality (England) Regulations 2000:

Benzene,
1,3-Butadiene,
Carbon Monoxide,
Lead,
Nitrogen Dioxide,
Sulphur Dioxide,
Particles (PM10).
There are three key components to this system:

• A Review and assessment of air quality in the Borough
• The declaration of Air Quality Management Areas in the Borough (if required)
• The development of Action Plans to reduce the problems in these areas (if required)
