The Official AQMA Orders

 
Due to the evidence presented to the Council through the Air Quality Review and Assessment, Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council declared three Air Quality Management Areas within the Borough which came into operation on 1st May 2003.
 

 
 
Below is a copy of the Official Order, copies of which can be seen at the Council offices.  Location maps for the three areas can also be found at the Environmental Health Offices at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury.

ENVIRONMENT ACT 1995, SECTION 83
 
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council Air Quality Management Areas Order 2003 (no.1)
 
Whereas it appears to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council ("the Council") that the air quality objective for the pollutant nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is not likely within the relevant period to be achieved within its area.  The Council, in exercise of the powers conferred upton it by the Environment Act 1995, Section 83, makes the following Order:
 
1.  This Order may be cited as the Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council Air Quality Management Area Order 2003 (No.1) and will come into operation on 1 May 2003.
 
2.  The area comprising part of Hereford Road (A49) between Sharpstones Lane and Burgs Lane and land adjacent thereto shown shaded green on the plan numbered AQMA 01; the area comprising parts of Ditherington Road (A5191), Whitchurch Road (A5112), Sundorne Road (B5062) and Telford Way (A5112) and land adjacent thereto shown shaded green on the plan number AQMA 02; the area comprising Frankwell, part of Bridge Street and Smithfield Road and land adjacent thereto shown shaded green on plan number AQMA 03 all attached hereto is declared to be the Air Quality Management Area ("the designated area") for the pollutant nitrogen dioxide (NO2).  The maps are deposited at the offices of the Council.
 
3.  This Order may be varied or revoked by a subsequent Order.
 
4. When this Order comes into operation, the Council will cause an assessment to be made of existing air quality within the designated area.
 
5. Within 12 months of this Order coming into operation the Council shall perpare a report of the results of the air quality assessment and shall prepare a written action plan in order to pursue the achievement of air quality standards and objectives in the designated area.
 
6.  Within 18 months of this Order coming into operation the action plan shall be in place and will include a timetable for the Council's implementation of each of the proposed action plan measures.

 
7.  The Council may revise the action plan from time to time.

A further Order enlarging AQMA 03 to encompass most of the Town Centre through to English Bridge and the gyratory came into effect on 1st March 2006.
